Course Description/Overview

Scientific & Technical Visualization I and II are courses focused on the principles, concepts, and use of complex graphic and visualization tools as applied to the study of science and technology. Students use complex 2D graphics, 3D Animation, editing, and image analysis tools to better understand, illustrate, explain, and present technical, mathematical, and/or scientific concepts and principles. Emphasis is placed on the use of computer enhanced images to generate both conceptual and data-driven models, data-driven charts, and animations. Science, math, and visual design concepts are reinforced throughout each course.

Course Policies

  • Come to class on time. Standing outside the door and running in after the bell has begun to ring will constitute a tardy. You must be inside the door and in your seat to be counted on time
  • Begin the warm up activity within one minute after the tardy bell. Directions will be on the projector screen or board. Please do not wait for me to remind you to begin since I need to take roll and attend to other duties.
  • Attend to personal needs before you come to class. You are not allowed to visit your locker once you’ve come to class and I will not allow visits to the bathroom unless it’s an emergency.
  • Remain in your seats unless you’ve been given permission to get up. Throw away trash at the end of class.
  • Do not eat candy or other food in class unless you’ve been given special permission. It is not my job to clean up after you. This also means you cannot bring lunch back to my room. Bottled water is allowed but it must stay on the floor, not on the desk or near electronics.
  • Ask your neighbor your question first. Most questions you will ask have already been answered, so this will save our instruction time.
  • No proxy servers, period. If you are seen on them, a screenshot will be taken and you will lose your account as stated in the New Hanover County Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Playing games during class in not permitted unless otherwise instructed. You will lose your internet privileges for the day in you are found doing so. If you are playing games off your flash drive, it will be shut off.

Parents/Guardians

Please be aware that students will typically have a test every three weeks as well as daily class work. Students will receive progress reports about every five weeks for you to sign. If a grade drops to a “D” or below, you will receive an email and begin getting progress reports every Friday. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to call me at (910) 790 - 2360 ext. 209 or email me at Michael.Powell@nhcs.net. I will try to keep you informed of your child’s progress, accomplishments and behavior.
